Day 061: I lost the more important part of my property

October 21, 2008 | Tuesday

IT’S EARLY AND it’s going to be a long day. I am waiting to have my property searched. Joey came over to shower in this section’s shower stall because theirs is still broken. The shakedown (cell search) has begun on the Death Watch section next to us. When Joey came through, he called my name, so when I looked, the door was open to the section next over and I could see the flood of officers. What they will do now is to take each person’s property to the recreation cage and go through it. Searched the cell too, while the person whose cell is being searched is locked in the shower stall. This whole cell block will be searched today.

I only now noticed that Joey left his shower shoes by my door! He did not say a word coming out of the shower. He is allowed to shower, as it is his date of execution. I was packing some last things and did not notice when he came out.

Late-night entry: I can’t believe I lost the more important part of my property!! They took my stamps and envelopes! What a wicked thing. And I only realized it! I cannot believe this. So, what am I supposed to do now?! No way can I purchase any because we are on lock-down status. This is unbelievable. Logging out before I begin to rant. Cannot allow this to steal my peace of mind…

    Dear Roy,
What a naughty trick! (No, I looked into the dictionary, it’s not enough). It was wicked, cruel. I hope you have been able to find peace of mind again. I have ranted and raved in your place. I am so sorry for you.
But you always have the good attitude. Be strong. Between persons who are so near one from the other – like the friends whom you are writing to – communication can also function by telepathy. Against this, there is nothing which can be done.
God will help you. We all love you and think of you.

Like François says, you always have the good attitude ! Be strong and know that they could never take away what is in your heart. You are daily in my thoughts and prayers like your dear Isabelle and Ruan. Thank you for all that you share with us. You are a wonderful person !

    Hello Roy
I pray Roy that you never lower your standards of caring about others as these prison officers have in regard to your stamps and envelops. God is on your side Roy and so am I. We all continue to pray for you for strength and guidence from our Father. Your friend.

    Hallo Roy,
I am very disapointed about what happens in Texas, about your stolen property, about the behaviour of the officers. They will also be punished by God sometimes, somewhere, somehow.
I pray to god to help you. I´m thinking of you.
    Best wishes

It’s weird; I am reading this only now, weeks after your property has been taken away from you, Rogelio… I knew from an Email that you have been bereaved from even those tiny tokens of ‘sharing and showing your care’… I honestly cannot think what makes anybody behave like this. It’s inhuman too, on a smaller scale but that doesn’t make it right. If you can no longer communicate by writing cards, you are being taken yet another little bit of freedom away. That’s the whole point of it. Ranting won’t help – but it releases some tension…
