Suspended but animated in this thing called life.

THIS IS AN amazing world we live in. It’s been quite some time since I’ve wondered about the genesis of life. I find myself caught somewhere in space, suspended but animated in this thing we call life.

I’m on Death Row, for those keeping score. It’s also been quite some time since I’ve updated this blog. I’m still here and hoping that through my words you may see how strange this place is. I’m back. It’s not what you may have believed.

Genesis…of things? A new beginning to my writing, I will say, so where to I point my pencil? I had a visit yesterday and that took me back home to before I was thrown into this nightmare. My love, Norma, came to see me and that has had me on Cloud 9. I’m thinking now of what direction to take and why not go to my start? I’m on Death Ro now, but it wasn’t always this way.

I’m called Cowboy Roy by those who would want to feel a closer bond to me, of sorts. Todd Willingham is who first called me that years ago and it stuck. My name is Rogelio and I was born in Del Rio, Texas, on the 29th day of May, 1972. I don’t recall much about being born, but I can imagine crying if my bottom was spanked. Did you cry? I don’t recall either.

[Juan R. Palomo writes: I received this blog posting from Rogelio two days after Normal wrote to tell me that a new execution date has been set for him: May 19. The legal battle is not over, however: his lawyers and investigators are doing all they can to round up evidence to bolster their case in a final appeal to the Supreme Court. In the letter that accompanied this blog, Rogelio was still very excited about Norma’s visit, and sad that it was over and that the two hours flew by so fast. He was realistic about his legal team’s chances for success, but, he added, “we still have a bit of fight left in us.”]

This is an amazing world we live in, Roy. What’s even more amazing to me, is how you’ve managed to always find some beauty, some good in it… in spite of the harsh conditions you have had to live in. Seeing this world through your eyes gives me a whole new perspective, and it helps me appreciate certain things more. Love you, Roy. I’m looking forward to all you still have to share… (Still on Cloud 9?)

Oh Rogelio; this is so very, very sad…. Since I am reading ‘backwards’, I might have replied in a funny way some days, forgive me!
I am only glad that you still have some reserves to ‘fight’ the system…. you’ll need it, even though you have probably thousands of people praying for you, hoping for you, talking to God in your favour…. I am one of them!
Hang on, keep the sweet thoughts up, they give you strength, hope and endeavor to make it! Out there, outside your prison bars, people, kind, wonderful and active people, are working day and night to get the facts together – facts which will make you a free man! That’s something to wait for, no?!
